Summary: An excellent book, very well paced and written
Comment: I have been working my way through this excellent book, and enjoying the process.

The book is for technical html designers who wish to learn JavaScript principles and specifics. The goal is to provide for client interactions, and to add useful features not possible with html. Despite the title, this is no simple Cookbook - it is for those who want to learn to cook well.

I found the technical exercises short and easy, and always a great aid to understanding the text's principles. I was pleasantly surprised to learn more than I expected about Object Oriented Programming, as it was painless! I expect this bonus will come in very handy, somewhere down the Java trail.

There may be a few other JavaScript books as good as this one; there seem to be far, far more 'stinkers'.

The book is a bargain, even at full list price.

Summary: This book has aged badly
Comment: This book was published in 1997 and unfortunately has aged badly. A newer revision would be required to bring it up to date with more modern standards and web browsers. Chapter 6 is a nice example of the problem: "What's New Since Navigator 2.0".

I highly recommend the O'Reilly "Javascript & DHTML Cookbook" instead. The O'Reilly book was published in 2003 and is much more relevant to the current world.

Summary: A wonderful reference book, and quick look-ups!
Comment: This is not a book if you are learning JavaScript but the most useful reference book for those of us who need a quick look up. There is not a quick reference if you are yet to explore the world of JavaScript but those who already have you cannot remember everything. The exercises are short and right to the point as this entire book was and so easy to follow. I thought the book was great and I could not survive without it!
